Fighting Complacency: Your Key To Continuous Progress

Hey everyone!

Today, I'd like to get into a topic that affects us all at one point or another: complacency. Have you heard of it?

Defining Complacency

Complacency is a state of satisfaction and self-assuredness that can lead to a lack of motivation, awareness, or action. Athletes, for instance, can become complacent when they've performed a task so many times that they no longer consider the risk of error.

What Creates Complacency?

Complacency often emerges from feeling comfortable and overly confident in our abilities.

Three Choices to Fight Complacency:

01: Commitment vs. Preference

  • Bound: Are you firmly committed to your goals?

  • Attached: Do you stay connected and dedicated to your objectives even when challenges arise?

  • Steady: Are your efforts unwavering, regardless of the circumstances?

02: Submission vs. Resistance

  • Bend Towards, Not Away From: Do you have the capacity to adapt and bend toward challenges rather than resisting them?

  • Trust: Can you trust the process and those around you?

03: Gratitude vs. Entitlement

Which mindset do you lean towards naturally? The choice will determine your approach to responsibilities and relationships.

  • Owe Mindset: Motivated by a sense of responsibility and reciprocity.

  • Owed Mindset: Expecting something in return for your efforts or contributions.

I encourage us to reflect on these choices and how they apply to our lives. If you lead a team, have this chat with them. Let's share a commitment to growth, improvement, and active engagement with our responsibilities and goals.
